Food for Thought :Ice Cream

There are not many things that go together as well as summertime and ice cream. Americans consume about 48 pints of ice cream per year, more than any other country per capita. Among our favorites are vanilla, chocolate, butter pecan, strawberry and chocolate chip. While you may have a favorite flavor or brand, most ice creams start out with a few basic ingredients, such as milk, protein solids and sweeteners. Because ice cream can pack a serious calorie and fat gram punch, it is important to remember to monitor your portion size and read the label. Here are a few tips to help you enjoy ice cream this summer with a little less guilt:
1.      Regular (whole) ice cream contains at least 10 percent milk fat. So watch your serving size and read the label. Most nutrition information is given in ½-cup serving sizes.
2 .     Look for low-fat or nonfat versions of your favorite. There are some tasty ones that will save you some calories and fat grams.
3 .    Make your own ice cream. Electric ice cream makers are quick and easy, not to mention less of a mess maker compared to their salt and ice predecessors. Knowing exactly what ingredients are being added can help you monitor those calories.

"If you're not using your smile, you're like a man with a million dollars in the bank and no checkbook."

"You can learn many things from children. How much patience you have, for instance."

"Some people are too tired to give you a smile. Give them one of yours, as none needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give."

  1. Hello HB,
Ice-cream is the world's most perfect food. The best I ever had was in Jersey, Channel Isles. The cream from the Jersey cows was so rich and thick. It was heavenly
. Good words of wisdom. I can't smile right now, it's late and I have insomnia. Must be something I ate.
I hope you are having a ball in DC. I am sure you are. Take care.

    Love Butterfly

PS: I see by the dove and the olive branch that you are trying to make peace with someone.

    1. Hello my little Butterfly ,
I also love ice cream , matter of fact my grands and I have it for breakfast when my son and daughter is not home . We do as we please when they are away , (laughing my butt off) Maybe the insomnia is for another reason , you may be pregnant and do not know how to tell your dear husband the poor man would faint .
I am having a ball , that are down to 50 teams . They let us leave yesterday a little after noon , told to come back Friday for the results and the winners . The team has 1 strike , win are lose they did good . 5 strikes and you go home so tomorrow we will know .
      Take care of yourself ,
      HHH aka HB G .

PS: No I am not trying to make peace with anyone .
The Dove and olive branch is a reminder , I do so hope that any love ones , friends or family that's estranged . I made peace with my brothers and others and if they or I die , I will die knowing I did the right thing . You have to forgive , if not , the hate will eat you alive .

    1. Hello my dear daughter ,
I think their daddy did teach them that , because he is afraid of getting his butt smacked .
Can not wait until tomorrow , I do so hope we stay until Sunday so the kids can see some sights . I hear there are more 7th graders than 8th graders and my team is the only 6th grade team . How thrilling .
      Your loving Dad

  3. Grandpoppa G.,
You give great advice on health , foods and things in general . Your title is eye catching .Your words of wisdom is so true . My wife told me to pick up milk at the store on my way home , I was dog tired , a lady standing in line smiled at me and it felt nice , I smiled back , I didn't seem as tired , smiles can do wonders .
I read one of your comments about the Dove and Olive Branch , I have a friend that's estranged from some members of his family , I urged him to get in touch , like you mention , hate will eat you alive .There is nothing family or friends can do and not to be forgiven , at the time maybe they thought they was right , as I think you did , you was the bigger man and reached out to them . Thanks

  4. Ardis , my good man ,
I try to catch the things the ladies don't do , just tidbits of things that peek people interest .
Yes a smile can do wonders for your morale and it costs nothing to give .

The Dove and the Olive branch is a reminder that you need to forgive to be truly happy , I also think it is good health wise . I had problems with some family members and it did not end well , I reached out to a brother when he lost his wife , we are not buddy , buddy but we are on speaking terms and my other brother came around , that was a good thing and I have no regrets .
The Dove is only a reminder of what we are missing if we don't reach out and for give .

Good to see you again G.
