Food for Thought : Sleep

Do you get enough sleep ? According  to a report  from the  Centers  for  Disease  Control (CDC) , insufficient sleep is  a  public  health  epidemic . While we  need seven to eigh  hours  of  sleep , many of  us do not get  near that much on a regular  basis. Getting enough sleep can help you maintain  a healthy  weight , reduce  stress , improve  your  mood  ,  think more  clearly  at work or  school  and  reduce  your  chances  of  getting  sick .

Avoid large  meals  before  bedtime :
While  a balanced  snack  can help  you relax , over eating  certain foods  can cause  problems  such as  heartburn  and  insomnia .

Limit  cafferine  and  acohol , especially close  to bedtime :
One  study  suggests  stopping  your  intake  of  cafferine  at  least  six  hours  before  bedtime  to prevent  any negative  side  effects .

Establish a routine :
Do household  chores  , lay  clothes  out  for  the next day , take  a bath ,read , work a crossword  puzzle  or  anything  that helps  you  relax  and  set the tone .
Keep  your  routine  in order  as  much as  possible  . Let  your  body be  prepared for  rest .

Exercising  before  before  bed  can  affect  people  differently :
You must deternine  what works  for  you . Light  stretching  and  some  deep  breahing  exercises are  always  a good  idea  foe rexlation .
If  you  have  trouble  falling  asleep  or  staying  asleep  , especially  over  a  period  of  ttime  ,  you should  discuss  tthis  with your  physician.

Words of  Wisdom  :

Life has a way of kicking us when we’re down. And just when we think we can’t fall any lower, we get kicked again.
But it’s important to remember that setbacks, failures, and tragedy are a part of life. Whether we manage to find joy and success in the daily struggle of life is largely dependent on our ability to persevere through even the toughest adversity witthoutt  giving up .

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always  try just one  more  time .

Wisdom is the right use of knowledge. To know is not to be wise. Many men know a great deal, and are all the greater fools for it. There is no fool so great a fool as a knowing fool. But to know how to use knowledge is to have wisdom.

Enlightened leadership is spiritual if we understand spirituality not as some kind of religious dogma or ideology but as the domain of awareness where we experience values like truth, goodness, beauty, love and compassion, and also intuition, creativity, insight and focused attention.

This quote  is  to my  two  dearest  friends : Harvey  Serafino  and   Larry  Wilkerson

We  have   been through  some  good  times  and  bad  times  in over  the  last  60 years   and  here's  to the  next  60 years  my dear  friends .
True friendship multiplies the good in life and divides its evils. Strive to have friends, for life without friends is like life on a desert island... to find one real friend in a lifetime is good fortune; to keep him is a blessing.

A proud grand-poppa        G.

    1. Hello my grands ,
I think Man is giving Jenny a taste of her own medicine , what is so funny he gives her the cookie and she has to feel it to him . Man is learning fast how to control his sisters like he do his mama (laughing my butt off) .
Susan brought us some of Joanna cookies , they are butter shortbread and just melts in your mouth . We all are looking forward to going to Austin and know your team will do us proud . Thanks for telling your homeroom teacher about me and tell her I would like to hear from her . Maybe I will let her take me out on a datte .
Love back to you my grands .

What good advice on sleep and to function correctly you need a good night's sleep and a very hearty breakfast especially kids and older people , such as you and your sidekicks .
Those girls look like perfect little angels , but you and I know better , they are little carbon copies of their musty butt mama , the boys is like both of them .
It was so nice you gave a shout out to your friends , over 60 years is a long time , you all are there for each other . Not many people can say that , friendships are lost on such minor things , some people disagree , one or the other is too proud to talk it out , such a waste . I taught my kids to not jump to conclusions , try to find a solution , that's what daddy taught us .
Keep up the good work .

    1. Joanna ,
      My dear Lady ,
Thank you , it means a great deal to me that you like the posts I choose . Yes , you and I know they are not angels and truly is like their mama . Those boys is truly a chip off the old block like their daddy . I enjoy watching all 4 work their parents , I told my son if he ever had kids they will show him what turned my hair white .
Yes , to find friends and keep them through the years is remarkable and I am truly blessed .
Joanna your daddy taught his kids well .

    Hello G .
Love the post and pictures .
Harvey said he finally made the big time . I told him he will be big time when you publish his picture sleeping , boy , what a mess that will be . When do you guys get 7 to 8 hours sleep ?
Do you count napping ? Inquiring minds want to know .
See you later old friend .

    1. Hello Jean and Harvey ,
Harvey was always big time , I will publish some pictures of Harvey when I find the perfect post for him and of you to my dear Jean .
Of course I count napping as sleep . As you get older you take little cat naps , because you do not sleep 8 hours at a time .
      See you later .

  4. Mr . Minty
Those girls are just too cute , they are their daddy's little women , love the post , please tell Mr. Sal he needs to sleep 7 hours and not take catnaps .
    Love the guy .

    1. Paul ,
Thanks Paul , they are very pretty girls , but they are taught beauty is only skin deep and they have to have beauty on the inside so their beauty will last a lifetime .
Sal is too dang old to change now , when he catnaps , you take a catnap too and in that way you can keep up with him if that is possible (laughing my butt off ).
      Mr . Minty

  5. Howdy Dad ,
You are choosing your posts well, thinks for being here for us and I thank you so very much , how about some gumbo , HUH ???
    Your only daughter

  6. Hello my sweet and wonderful daughter ,
I talk to people , ask what is on their mind and go from there . Not hard at all , just common sense , is it not so ?
You are welcome dear daughter . Thanks for the gumbo and hot bread , the cornbread was also good with it .
    Your only dad.

Come on in , set awhile and have a cup of tea and cookies , as always you are welcome .
