Food for Thought : Thursday is Meatout Day

Thursday is Meatout Day. Started in 1985, Meatout is one of the largest annual grassroots diet education programs. Eating a diet high in plant-based foods, like fruits, vegetables, whole grain, beans and nuts, may help reduce obesity, heart disease and other health problems. Many people are afraid to go meatless because they think they will miss out on nutrients, especially protein. However, Americans regularly eat more than enough protein on a daily basis and there are many protein-rich foods to choose from when going meatless. Here are a few tips:

Go meatless once a week. Many people go meatless on Mondays, but find a day that works best for your family.

Keep things simple. Try a grilled cheese with vegetable soup or a bean burrito with a salad for quick and easy meals.

Replace meat in your favorite recipes with beans. Try beans in salads for a great meal.

Don’t think of going meatless as taking something away. Think of it as adding to your diet. Experimenting with a new grain or bean such as oats, quinoa and millet are great for the adventurous palate.

Word of  Wisdom :
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.'

Any fool can tell the truth, but it requires a man of some sense to know how to lie well.

The follies which a man regrets most, in his life, are those which he didn't commit when he had the opportunity.

Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning

Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.

Did you know that if ask anyone from a Professor to a politician 'Why', three times in a row, you can reduce them to a gibbering idiot. Incidentally, the three 'Whys' trick is one that I learnt from watching my 5 year old grandson question  his mother.

Tell that son of yours I did not cook meat today , you are trying to keep us healthy and we are going by your guidelines , which I know is best for all of us ., especially if our resistance is low . It also helps if your immune system is also low , vegetables and citrus fruits will help .

    1. Hello dear Joanna ,
Thank you for so much , we have to revive our immune systems this time of year because we don't exercise as much in the winter months and this winter has been a rough winter . You are so right we should all start eating more vegetables and citrus fruits . My grands love visiting Claude at the vegetable market .
